Ship Reviews

My first time on Sky and I thoroughly enjoyed my cruise. I chose this TA for it's sailing date and had the intention of simply relaxing on my spring break. We only had 3 ports scheduled out of 15 days so There were lots of sea days, including the first 8. We lost a port and had to change another one because we ran into a huge weather front that refused to leave our side. The captain tried to skirt the front but as we turned north there was nothing to do but go through it. High winds, lots of rain and wild, rocking seas. Sounds awful, right? It was the best time. The staff kept the engagement up throughout and the passengers seemed to be determined to enjoy the journey despite the imperfect conditions. The ship itself is wonderful, lots of places to gather. The dining was enjoyable, though I went to buffet more than I usually do.

This is the second time we have cruised on the beautiful Sky Princess and once again she did not disappoint. We Aloha which is a standard balcony cabin which was light and spacious. We loved that we could stand on our balcony in our nightwear at 5.30 in the morning as we sailed into ports on the stunning fjords without having to go up on deck. Our room attendant was Albert who kept our room clean and tidy and was always welcoming and smiling. He made sure everything we used was topped up and ready for use. We cannot fault any staff onboard. Everyone appeared to be happy in their work, smiling and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We once again found the food to be of a very high standard and thoroughly enjoyed the food on deck 17 in particular. We can recommend the pizza, burgers, hotdogs and fries but we were a bit disappointed with the ice cream at Swirls which was very icy and didn't really taste of anything. World fresh marketplace was amazing with the sheer variety of food on offer and the quality was generally exceptional. The staff in this area are very attentive and asked if you would like a drink usually within a few minutes of being seated. There are hand washing facilities and hand gel at either end of this area and you are encouraged to wash you hand before entering which a great idea as everyone uses the same serving spoons. On this cruise we did not bother with the main dining rooms as last time we didn't find them any better than the marketplace and obviously there is a lot less choice. We bought the princess plus package which we feel is well worth the cost. It covers Wi-Fi for 1 device (you can alternate between different devices), drinks package and staff gratuities. It meant we could enjoy our cruise and not expect a big bill at the end of our holiday. We did find the Wi-Fi a bit hit and miss at time. There was a period of 2-3 days when my husband couldn't get access but I am sure he could have sought out staff who would have been happy to help. The princess medallion is a fantastic bit of technology. . Unlocking stateroom doors and being able to pay for drinks and good with it. We took advantage of ocean now for ordering drinks to our state room and around the ship and found the service to be very good. Obviously on sea days service can be a bit slower but this is fully understandable. There is also a machine in guest services which you can use your medallion to print off a list of anything you will be charged for. Even if you are not expecting any charges I recommend you get a print out. We did this and discovered we had been charged for the premium desserts which should have been free with the princess plus package. We went straight to guest services who removed the charges without issue. If we had got home and then discovered the charges it would have been much harder to sort out. We loved the movies under the stars, snuggled up in the blankets which are provided and watching from the comfy loungers as the ship goes dark and looks beautiful light up with sunsets in the distance. The showed reasonably current movies (the same movies are also available in your stateroom) sports matches and even music concerts. We watched a couple of shows while onboard, the voice boys were pretty good but not really our cup of tea but the rock opera show was a feast for the eyes and ears. I wish it had last longer than the 45 minutes it ran for. There is always something to do onboard day or night, it is amazing value for money in comparison to other cruise lines. There is something for everyone, young or old. The retreat is a lovely area on the ship, plenty of sun loungers, a couple of jacuzzi's, pool and bar. No children are allowed in this area which can be nice if you are cruising during the school holidays. Considering the ship has around 3500 passengers at full capacity you would never know it. It never felt overcrowded to us. We always managed to get a sun lounger on deck, even on sea days and never had to wait more that a few minutes to be served at bars. Seating in the bars at night, particularly if they are putting on entertainment can be tricky but get there early and you will get a seat, The same can be said for Princess theatre, get there at least 20 minutes early. People still hold seats for people even though there is an announcement saying not to do this. The fjords destinations we went to were stunning, in particular Skjolden (we recommend Skjolden Llamas excursion) and Olden (Loen skylift excursion well worth booking). Haugesund for us was a bit boring but the fact it was heavy rain really didn't help, I'm sure it is a lovely place when the sun is shining. Stavanger was a lovely place, it was a public holiday so sadly a lot of places were shut when we visited but we still enjoyed it. Embarkation was very easy and we were on the ship 10 minutes before our boarding time of 12-3pm. Disembarkation was well organised we felt but next time we will not keep our suitcases with us as it took us around 30 minutes to get down to deck 5 in the lifts. Without the suitcases we could have took the stairs or squeezed in the lifts. We are cruising on sky princess again next year and cannot wait. The fact that we familiar with the ship and what she has to offer means we are so relaxed as soon as we set foot onboard. So far we have not found a reason to choose a different cruise line. Keep up the good work Princess cruises.

We last sailed on Sky Princess in November 2024 and were completely wowed compared to previous cruise lines. This time it wasn’t quite the five star experience we had last time. Embarkation was still smooth and we boarded the ship in under 30 minutes. We booked a mid aft mini suite for this sailing and whilst we enjoyed the extra space and the larger bathroom, we did not feel it was worth the extra money as it still had the same shallow balcony as a standard balcony cabin. The bed in our cabin was also less comfortable than our previous cabin and it felt as if it was sagging in places. The food on this sailing wasn’t quite as good and it was clear that whilst prices are going up, cut backs are being made. For example, we booked Crown Grill for late into our sailing and the menu had been much reduced compared to our previous sailing and what had been offered earlier in the cruise, with a number of starters and entrees being removed despite the price increasing. In addition Alfredo’s are offering new pizzas with a supplement which nearly doubles the price of the set menu. Probably the most disappointing was the freshly squeezed juices in the Pastry Shop. They are now pre-made in jugs and they appeared quite reluctant to prepare them freshly with modifications and the sizes have drastically decreased. The food in the MDR is still very good compared to other cruise lines and in fact after the disappointment in Crown Grill we have decided we are unlikely to use speciality dining again on Princess because the included food is very good and the speciality doesn’t feel as worth it now. The entertainment on the ship was OK but three out of the seven nights were production shows we had seen before and was mainly focused around singers, which isn’t our cup of tea. The comedians in the vista lounge as per our last sailing were poor as well. The service overall was still a very high standard and was generally friendly and prompt. We only had one poor service experience in the MDR where our dinner took over 2.5 hours, however, this was acknowledged by the staff on board when feedback was given. We would still use Princess and think it is very good value for money, but the recent changes have taken away some of their sparkle.

This was our fifth cruise on Sky Princess Staying in a full suite. Embarkation and disembarkation were both excellent. Sadly, on this occasion we found the suite experience lacking. The cabin was fine and clean but lacked flowers, very basic amenities. We received no invitations for suite guests such as the Senior Officers welcome party. It looked like Princess were cutting corners. Mildred, our cabin steward was excellent. The entertainment was very poor comprising mainly of tribute acts. How many times can you watch Rock Opera, 5 Skies and the other one (so memorable I cannot remember its name!) Food was excellent throughout with the exception of the buffet where Indian food dominated. The offering seemed to be the same every night regardless of theme! Service on board was excellent. Cruise Directors staff were hit and miss. Dan, Luke and Tomas were good fun and mixed well with audience. The interaction with the others was poor. This was the first cruise we have been on where the Seniors Officers were almost invisible.
